Sculptor and photographer Schuyler Dawson was awarded The Best of Show Prize at the 2017 Southern Tier Biennial (STB) for his sculpture, Ode to Adolescence. For his solo exhibition, titled, “Ways of Seeing: The Things I Thought I Knew,” Dawson explains his artistic practice as “an exploration in ways of seeing, . . . exploring the creation of tension and balance between found objects. I am attracted to old broken objects: rusty trinkets, rotten lumber, fallen branches, peculiar rocks. In my studio, I examine how to present these objects in a way that highlights and strengthens their curious nature to the viewer.” The opening reception for this exhibition is Friday evening, September 21st with an artist talk and live music by the Hick Ups, from 6-8pm at the JCC Center Gallery, 260 North Union Street in Olean. The reception is free, open to the public, and appetizers and beverages will be served.
