Patterson Library Octagon Gallery – Susan Stone and Carol Posch Comstock

Susan Stone graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting and Printmaking. She has shown in juried exhibits throughout the country and her work is in private and corporate collections regionally and nationally. Susan is a member of the Northwest Pennsylvania Artists Association and is a member and past President of the Lake Erie Fiber Guild.

This last year has been spent primarily on producing new work that allows me to showcase an array of exotic materials and techniques that extends the art of fiber.

I create small scale fiber art using found objects, colorized fabrics, handmade felt, beads and embroidered stitching techniques.

Art is an everyday part of my life. Being active in fiber involves the search for one’s own reality. The more an artist can reach self-recognition, the closer the artist will come to communicating to the viewer.

I have spent most of my adult years living in the Lake Erie Region. The flow of water, in all its forms, has influenced my spirit and artistic endeavors. Some are direct and traditional and others delve deeper into mystical expression. Growing up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA, I was blessed with woodlands to explore and nature found a place in my heart at an early age. Through my life journey, I discovered that mystical experience is inherent not only in art and nature, but also in contemplative movement practices. A good number of years ago, I read the words of Joseph Campbell: “Follow Your Bliss.” Over the years, I have embraced this sentiment by combining creativity, yoga and expressive arts facilitation. I endeavor to promote curiosity, peace, joy, and wellbeing. I see the light in all of creation and celebrate the gift of the present moment.

Carol Posch Comstock- I began my formal arts education at the University of Pittsburgh, transferring to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where I received a B.S. in Art Education. I continued with Graduate Studies in Photography at Ohio University. I spent some years teaching art and photography at many locations/levels, including preschool, elementary school, high school, adult education, social service agencies, and spiritual retreats. I have exhibited my work extensively in solo and group shows regionally and nationally for over 40 years. I am currently a member of the the Fiber Arts Guild of Erie, the Northwestern Pennsylvania Artists Association, a (founding member) of The Labyrinth Society, and a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance.
