Invoke

The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University in association with Friends of Good Music present the Bowed and Fretted String Quartet, Invoke.

Described by one pretty important radio guy as “not classical…but not not classical” (David Srebnik, SiriusXM Classical Producer), Invoke continues to successfully dodge even the most valiant attempts at genre classification.

The multi-instrumental band’s other not-nots encompass traditions from across America, including bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism. Invoke weaves all of these styles together to create truly individual music, written by and for the group.

Fueled by their passion for storytelling, members Nick Montopoli, Zachariah Matteson, Karl Mitze, and Geoff Manyin weave all of these styles together to form a unique contemporary repertoire, featuring original works composed by and for the group.

Invoke was named a winner of the 2018 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition in New York, New York, and won first prize in the open category of the International Chamber-Arts Competition M-Prize, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as first prize in the Coltman Competition in Austin, Texas.
