Exhibition, Ways of Seeing: The Things I Thought I Knew

In this exhibition, Ways of Seeing: The Things I thought I Knew, sculptor & photographer Schuyler Dawson explains his artistic practice as “an exploration in ways of seeing, of finding meaning in the mundane, of finding value in the debased. In my sculptures I have been exploring the creation of tension and balance between found objects. I am attracted to old broken objects: rusty trinkets, rotten lumber, fallen branches, peculiar rocks. In my studio, I examine how to present these objects in a way that highlights and strengthens their curious nature to the viewer.”

The exhibition is on view at the JCC Center Gallery, 260 North Union Street in Olean, from September 21 through October 26, 2018, with a public opening reception September 21st and an artist talk from 6-8pm. The exhibition is presented by the Tri-County Arts Council, Jamestown Community College, and the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation through the generous sponsorship of the F. Donald Kenney Foundation. For more information please visit www.southerntierbiennial.com. See more of Schuyler Dawson’s work at schuylerdawsonart.com.
