Bharatanatyam is a 2000 year old dance tradition of southern India. The dance movements are characterized by bent legs, while feet keep rhythm. Hands may be used in a series of mudras, or hand gestures, to tell a story or perform intricate rhythmic technique
This 2 hour workshop aims to introduce its participants to the world of Indian classical art forms, with primary focus on the dance form of Bharatanatyam. The workshop will cater to both beginners as well as those trained in any form of dance. Prior training in Bharatanatyam is not necessary. Ages 10+ and above.
Dancers will explore body movement, simple expressions, and rhythm and will learn a simple choreography to present at the end of the workshop.
