The Tri-County Arts Council is pleased to announce the exhibit opening for “Put the Paint to the Petal,” works by Sarah Phillips, at the Art on Main Gallery, 100 West Main Street in Allegany, on Friday evening, November 2nd from 6-8 p.m. Appetizers and beverages will be served at the opening reception which is free and open to the public. All are invited to come view these works on exhibit through December 21, 2018.
Sarah Phillips is a retired educator living in Rushford. Her love of the outdoors began in her childhood in Vermont and is what drew her to her first career teaching physical education for thirty years and then qualifying to become an art teacher. The switch seems out of place, but as Phillips explains, “both skills are dependent upon hand-eye-coordination. One needs to really see something before rendering it by hand.”
Phillips’ subjects range from nature and wildlife to antiquated objects and old photos. She works in watercolor, oil, acrylic, scratchboard, pencil, and engraving, with the subject dictating the medium. Her work has been shown in various galleries in Canada and the United States and she recently participated in the Allegany Artisans Open Studio Tour.
The Art on Main Gallery is open Monday through Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Thursdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends.
