Paper Moon: A new ballet

After their well-received staging of The Nutcracker in December, the David A. Howe Public Library welcomes back Genesee Dance Theatre to showcase a different side of the local dance company’s repertoire, Paper Moon. The ballet will bring classics from the Great American Songbook to life with a score by composers including Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, and Rodger’s & Hart.
Choreographed by Genesee Dance Theatre director Sarah Keeler Badger, Paper Moon incorporates elements of contemporary and musical theater dance as well as ballet.
“Wellsville audiences know us from our annual Nutcracker production, but this is a totally different kind of ballet,” Badger said. While there are no sugarplum fairies or pink tutus in Paper Moon there’s plenty here for the whole family to enjoy. Kids will love the upbeat jazzy movements while adults can enjoy revisiting classic tunes from days gone by.
Genesee Dance Theatre was founded in 2014 with the goal of bringing engaging high-quality ballet productions to rural areas in the Genesee Valley. Now based in in Perry, NY Genesee Dance Theatre’s annual programming includes three fully staged productions and pre-professional ballet training through its dance school.
