The Genesee Dance Theatre returns to the David A. Howe Public Library this December with its annual production of The Nutcracker. This beloved holiday ballet, based on the story by E.T. A. Hoffmann and set to Tchaikovsky’s famous score, is brought to life by a cast of more than 20 dancers from around the region including professional dancer Beau Hutchings in the title role. Choreographed specifically for the Howe stage by artistic director Sarah Keeler Badger, The Nutcracker will feature extended scenes, new to this year’s performance. This is a holiday tradition that will delight and enchant the whole family.
Performances are Friday December 7th at 7pm, Saturday December 8th at 2pm, and Sunday December 9th at 2pm in the Nancy Howe Auditorium. Tickets are not required and doors open 30 minutes prior to the performance with open seating.
Join the Friends of the Library before the Saturday December 8th performance at 12:30pm in the exhibition room of the library for cookies and hot cocoa with Santa and the cast of The Nutcracker. Children will be able to make an ornament to trim the library Christmas tree. Miss Kate will also be holding a Nutcracker Storytime with the cast on Friday, December 7th at 10:30am.
This production is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and administered by the Tri County Arts Council.
This production is also sponsored in part by the Friends of the Library as well as Walker Business Services. It is free and open to the public.
