New York State Puppet Festival

The inaugural year of the New York State Puppet Festival will play host to ten days of performances, puppetry workshops, film screenings, puppetry art exhibitions, and more! Featuring nationally and internationally renowned artists in the field of contemporary puppetry, the first year of this biennial festival promises to offer something for young audiences, families, and adults! Featuring a gallery exhibition of the life’s work of puppet artist Dan Hurlin, accompanied by a screening of his documentary, “Puppet,” this opening night event will also feature a panel discussion on puppetry with Dan, and Z Briggs, of the Jim Henson Foundation. Other performing artists include Concrete Temple Theatre, Tom Lee & Lisa Gonzalez, Sam Jay Gold, Josh Rice, Hamida Khatri, and the headliner, fifth-generation headmaster of the cart puppetry company, Hachioji Kuruma Ningyo, and recognized Intangible Asset of Folk Culture by the Japanese Government, Koryu Nishikawa V. Shows and exhibitions take place in Perry, NY at Theatre@37, as well as the Arts Council for Wyoming County.
