Fulbright Opportunities for AU Students and Recent Alums:Arts Grants

application? Join Prof. Mary McInnes and three alumni of Alfred University’s MFA program to learn about their experience as Fulbright scholars. Speakers include: Mark Hursty – MFA, Sculpture (2008) and Fulbright to China (2011-2012) Mark is a glass and new media artist, teacher and researcher. His most recent project concerns reviving and reinterpreting pressed glass, a serial mass production technique, for sculptural use. In this, ancient press-molding is paired with digital technologies. The result is a series of modular screen systems that expand and contract like fabric. http://www.markhursty.com Kait Rhoads — MFA, Sculpture (2001) and Fulbright to Italy (2001-2002) Kait is a Seattle-based sculptor that uses traditional cane and murrine (Italian glass patterning techniques) in an innovative fashion to create structure and imagery of growth systems in her work. She uses individual blown, cut, and fire polished glass hexagonal ‘hollow murrine’ as architectural elements that fit together to create a fluid or floating object which embodies the memory of an interaction with nature. Her work is included in major collections, including the Corning Museum of Glass. https://kaitrhoads.com Tim Gonchoroff — MFA, Sculpture (2015) and Fulbright to Norway (2015-2016) Tim is a fiber and mixed media artist originally from Appalachian Virginia. His work focuses on traditional crafting processes including natural dyeing, weaving, carpentry, and many others as a conduit for investigating and documenting the products of an anthropogenic ecology. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Sculpture at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on the Texas-Mexico border. https://www.gonchoroff.com
