Photographer, Catherine Panebianco, partnered with the Jamestown Public Schools’ Washington Middle School After School Program to present “The Best Part of Me.” Students are creating a piece of art that includes a photographic self-portrait and writing. An opening reception for the student’s work will be held on Wednesday, November 28th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Jamestown Community College’s Sheldon Center on the second floor with a reception for students, families and the local community. The exhibition is a collaboration with JCC’s Weeks Gallery.
Students collected ideas for their self-portrait by mapping memories and observations about the different parts of their bodies, journaling and brainstorming ideas by working as teams and as a class to discover more about one another and how to best portray that in a photograph. The Best Part of Me project pushes students to observe details, call-up stories, think creatively and make thoughtful choices as to what they want to show an audience for exhibition. Using technology, students photographed their self-portrait and wrote a story based on the photograph to create a finished fine art piece for exhibition.
